Faced with criticism of content moderation, Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri acknowledges significant flaws in the social network’s functionality and threads, while promising improvements.

Faced with a wave of complaints regarding its handling of content moderation on Threads, Meta has promised to fix “mistakes” in the application of its rules. Adam Mosseri, CEO of Instagram, announced that changes have already been made to address these issues.
Moderation decisions challenged
Thread users have expressed their displeasure with moderation decisions, which are sometimes viewed as aggressive and illogical. A notable example was the punishment of several accounts for using the terms “cracker” or “saltine”. Adam Mosseri did not explain exactly why these errors occurred, but mentioned that one of the company’s internal tools had “failed,” preventing human moderators from accessing the “sufficient context” of the posts they were supposed to moderate.
Instagram needs to make it better for its users
In a statement, Adam Mosseri said: ” For those of you who have raised concerns about app issues: We are looking into them and have already found bugs and made changes“. The main problem, he said, was that moderators made decisions without knowing how the conversations were going. ” It was a mistake. We fix this so they can make better decisions and we can make fewer mistakes. We’re looking to provide a safer experience, and we need to do better“, he added.
Controlling engagement bait: another challenge for Threads
Content moderation is not the only problem for Threads users. In fact, Mosseri promised earlier this week that Threads was working on a solution to control baiting on the service after several complaints.
